Fish and Finns

Finland is a land of simple people with raw natural beauty. It is one of the places you can go to admire nature which can be seen there at its peak.

Oulanka National Park
Oulanka is the national landscape, where one can enjoy all year round, for a few hours like for a day out and even long hiking trips. Pine forests, river valleys sandbanks and rapids, and the wetlands, many endangered plant and animal species are what that make Oulanka National Park worth visiting.

Kalakukko (fish pie)
Finnish are the lovers of fish with 187,888 lakes in their country. Kalakukko is a traditional food which is a fish baked in a loaf of bread. It is especially popular in Kuopio, capital city of the Northern Savonia region. Traditionally, it is prepared with rye flour. Bones of the fish soften and the meat and fish juices cook thoroughly inside the bread. This results in a moist filling.
Kuopio is home to many kalakukko bakeries. The city also hosts an annual kalakukko baking contest.

Blueberry pie
Finnish love collecting blueberries from forests for baking at home. Baking is one of the most popular hobbies there. Blueberry pie is a sweet pie made of blueberries. Although it is the official desert of Mania, a U.S. state, but the lovers of baking won’t miss a chance on having them once a week. You would often see a Finnish family out for fishing and collecting berries on weekends and holidays.
